The windows were ordered and being manufactured, that left us a few weeks to try and clear out the centre of the building. We needed to be able to access the upper windows from inside so they could be sealed in. This was a big task. Lots of internal rubbish, the 3 suspended ceiling then all the internal walls, stage area to be ripped out and disposed of.
Buy the end of this job we really started to get an idea of how large the building was. We got our first glimpse at how fantastic the roof looked, like an upturned ship. Here is a photo of the end result, and below some photos of the journey getting here.
I hope you enjoy this video of the top steels coming out. At a height of 12 metres on a scaffold it was not for the feint hearted. We got on with the internal rip out, bring down walls and loading skips.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT?
There is ongoing work on the roof, the main roof slates are mostly finished, just waiting for us to finish work in the bell tower. We need to re-waterproof the floor of the bell tower, rig up some lighting and cables ready for when the new electric systems are in place, and lastly protect it from the pigeons. The roofers will soon be starting work on the chancel – this is the curved part over the alter.
Meanwhile; the double glazed units are currently in production and with the internal space now clear they will be ready for fitting as soon as they have been manufactured.
