Mission, Values & Vision
MISSION
Our mission as a church defines why we exist and what drives us forward as a gathered family. This is the big reason we do all we do and all of that flows from the life and instruction of Jesus himself.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:36-39)
Jesus explained what he wanted us to spend our time doing as his disciples:
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
These incredible words are where our personal mission as SLIC comes from:
VISION
If our mission is our ‘why’ then then the vision is our ‘what’. This flows directly from what we believe into all kinds of spheres and ministries. Our mission is fixed but our vision changes as we are led by the Holy Spirit year-by-year. We gather to seek God specifically for vision every year focusing our time, energy and resources on whatever he calls us to. This is the adventure of faith.
VALUES
If the mission is our ‘why’ and the vision is our ‘what’ then the values are our ‘how’. These are the principles that guide our attitude and approach as a church family. These are listed below.
