Hope in Time of Trouble

A Hindu Story

I was born in 1950 in Gujarat, India into a family, which worshiped a Hindu goddess. My mother was the main one to follow her with my father going with her. While I lived at home I too did what ever was required to keep my mother happy.

At the age about 10 years I left home to go to study in Ahmedabad, under the care of my older uncle. I no longer worshiped any particular god or goddess although I would go to the religious functions just for social reasons.

In 1977 I moved to England through marriage. Sadly, in 1989 my father died in Gujarat. Soon after I came from seeing my mother & family in India following my fathers death a friend started to come and talk to me about Jesus, about death and life in general.

The more we talked the more I started to believe in Jesus. One day I was asked if Jesus was here in person what would you say and I said I would ask him to help me. I prayed that night which was in 1990 for Jesus to come into my life and help me and be the person that he wanted me to be and to forgive all the things that I had done wrong.

Soon after that in 1990 my mother also died. The problems in my marriage, which had been at breaking point for some time got worse, resulting eventually in divorce. I have felt God help me through these very difficult and painful times. He has helped me to start again in finding a house and setting up home by my self.

In 1995 I had an accident in which two cars were written off and I found myself stranded on the outside lane of a motorway. I was only a few seconds away from death. But God kept me and I walked away without even a scratch. Since then I have wanted to follow Him even more. Life has had many struggles for me but I keep on looking to God to help me.

Jesus said, ” I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me ” (John’s gospel 14:6) and ” I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life ” (John’s gospel 5:24).

Jesus is the only way to God because He is the only one who can forgive our sins. He does this through the sacrifice of His death on the cross in our place and so deals with God’s condemnation and punishment of all that we have done wrong. Without that forgiveness, we would all have to pay for our own sin in hell forever but Jesus paid the price for us and then rose to life again. God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ is open to anyone who will place their trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

God loves us and has promised forgiveness and a new life to all who put their life in Jesus hands. This promise is for all who want to turn from evil, ask God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and ask Jesus to be their Lord and take control of their lives but the power of his Holy Spirit.
